Best Start Grants 

Best Start Grants are made up of 3 possible payments. These provide parents and carers who receive certain benefits or tax credits with financial support during the key early years of a child's life. 

• Pregnancy and Baby Payment is £642.35 on the birth of your 1st child and £321.10 on birth of subsequent children, you can apply from 24 weeks in your pregnancy until your baby is 6 months old. 

• Early Learning Payment is £267.65 for when your child is between 2 yrs and 3.5 years old to help with costs of early learning. 

• School Age Payment is £267.65 to help with costs preparing your child to start primary 1. If your child was born between 1 March 2017 and 28 February 2018 and is due to start school in August 2022 or you are deferring your child place until August 2023 then applications for this grant open 1 June 2022 until 28 February 2023.
